floppy disks, hard drives and ram disks. Simply select the drive you want to
search and enter the file name(s). Multiple files can be searched for and
wildcards are supported. Once located, the file(s) may be loaded, deleted or
have thweir attributes changed. LIFE - This type of propagation program is
well known and goes back a long way in computing. Chris Skellern has
presented this one in a very tidy fashion and the rules of the game are well
explained. Demos of different growth patterns are available. Alternatively
you can create your own and watch the fascinating growth patterns. MINE - A
grid contains some hidden mines. You must identify which squares contain
mines without uncovering them. Each turn gives you clues as to the
whereabouts of these mines. A challenging puzzle game. SCHOENBERG - An
algorithmic composing program by Gareth Jones, said to be based on
techniques developed by the Second Viennese School of composers, Schoenberg,
Berg, and Webern. As is usual with this type of program, results are rather
avant guard. ST ZIP V2.2 - The latest version of Vincent Pomey's excellent
archiver program. MEGA DEPACK 2.11 - Mike Watson's latest update. It even
unpacks PowerPack files from the Amiga!
FST.3728 JUNE/JULY 1993 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of the best software
from our latest catalogue. FIGGY - Reconfigures your computer's memory to
make it behave as if it has 1/2 Meg, 1 Meg or 2 Meg of memory. Obviously it
can't give you more memory than is fitted but it can give you less and then
restore back to normal. It is primarily intended for testing memory
requirements of programs and avoiding the 'won't run on machines with more
than 1 Meg' problem. RAZREZ - An ACC music player which will play any piece
of chip music written by Mad Max, Count Zero, Crispy Noodle, Lap, Big Alec,
Synth Dream, SMF/MUF, LTK, Megatiser, Zound-Dragger, Undead, TAO, Ralph,
Xenex, Trimod, Nexus, Ben Dalglish, Misfit, GSR v3 and Blip Blopper! It will
even recognise and play and of the above when packed with Ice 2.4, Fire 2.0,
Atomik 3.5, Automation 5.01 or SpeedPacker 2.0. VIEW by Damien Jones -
Allows you to view Degas, NEO, Tiny, Spectrum 512, Art Director and Doodle
pictures by simply double-clicking them. If you're unfamiliar with
installing an application, don't worry as an installer is supplied! COPY
MULTI V1.0 - A multi-tasking disk copying program. It copies disks as you
get on with something else. It does not require Multi-TOS and runs on any
ST. EXTRACT LZH - Allows you to create your own self extracting files from
LZH archives. UNDELETE by Trevor Blight - An excellent utility which takes a
new approach to recovering deleted files. It reconstructs the file in memory
and saves it to another disk, preventing possible messups on the original
disk. GIF2550C by Martin Dryden - Prints GIF pictures to the
HP Deskjet 550C. The GIF is printed out in up to 256 colours and is very
high quality, especially if printed on HP's glossy paper. A couple of
example GIFs are provided. EXTEND PI1 - At long last an answer to why DPaint
ST has trouble with some Degas PI1s. It seems they should 32066 bytes and
not 32034! This program puts it right. SPOFLITE v2.1 - A brand new GIF
viewer from the USA that uses flicker control, dither and RGB adjustment.
It's a shame this is only a viewer and has no save option as yet. DOGGIE - A
Deluxe Paint animation of the famous Dulux paint dog. INSECTOID by Robert
Dytmire - A Galaxians type game where waves of insects swoop down the
screen at you and you must defend yourself by shooting as many of them as
you can. Once you clear the screen of aliens it's on to the next level
where you continue with the destruction. A very addictive game.
FST.3854 AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 1993 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of the best
software from the latest catalogue. PICSWITCH V.101 - Just when you thought
any updates of v0.7 had sunk without trace, at long last it gets updated!
Don't get too excited, as for some strange reason John Brochu has decided to
make this a mono graphic printer tool, supporting 9-pin, 24-pin and HP
Laserjet printers. Even though he has extended even further the file format
support, the only saves are in mono IMG. If you're a mono user it's great,
otherwise don't delete v0.7! AUTO CAPTURE V1.0 by Stuart Coates - Install
this program in your Auto folder and it will intercept all data from your
RS232 port and save it to a disk file. Useful if you've gone on-line and
forgot to switch on your capture buffer. PLAY MATH by B-Ware - An
educational platforms and ladders game which offers standard addition,
subtraction etc; with a more unusual presentation. A 'creature' has to be
guided through different mazes to land on the correct number sequence
required for easy, medium and difficult questions. The 'difficult' maths are
best done with a simple calculator. For £5, registered users get a program
which lets them set up their own questions. Highly recommended. KUBES by
Digital Dimension - A puzzle game that bears a passing resemblance to
Tetris. You must clear the screen of falling blocks, however you can't move
the current blocks but you can move the rows of previously collected blocks.
Addictive with some original concepts. ZZD QUARTET PLAYER by ZZD - A stand
alone player for Quartet files with output via the sound chip, DMA, ST
Replay series or Playback. CLIPBRD 1.3 - An implementation of the standard
GEM clipboard as specified by DRI. It allows programs which support it to
share data between each other. It is ideally suited for hard drive or
ramdisk use. CLOCK 2.0 - Probably the best Desktop clock there is. It can be
displayed anywhere on screen in analog or digital form. It has an alarm
facility and can display the date too. If you have an STE, TT or Falcon, it
will chime on the hour too! Everything can be customised to suit. MASTER
BROWSE V2.6A - Probably the best document displayer available. It operates
within a GEM window and allows you to search text, set markers, select and
print blocks and much more. It's very fast at loading text and scrolling on
screen. It even runs under Multi-TOS. POVSHELL V1.6 by Binaris - An easy to
use GEM based shell (which is even Multi-TOS compatible) for simplifying the
use of POV Raytrace. It allows you to enter all those complex parameters
with simple mouse clicks. THE ULTIMATE WRITE PROTECTOR - Allows you to write
protect all drives, including hard drives and ramdisks.
FST.3992 OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 1993 PREVIEW DISK. A selection of the best
software from the latest catalogue. MATCH 2 by Dunce's Cap Software - A
followup to the game on EDU.3455. The initial concept of clicking on squares
to reveal their contents and trying to remember where matching pictures are
located, has been taken further. The three additional options allow you to
match (or avoid a match) with two adjacent screens or 'Super Match' where
you have a massive 72 square grid! Very addictive and highly entertaining.
KUBES by Digital Dimension - A puzzle game that bears a passing resemblance
to Tetris. You must clear the screen of falling blocks, however you can't
move the current blocks but you can move the rows of previously collected
blocks. Addictive with some original concepts. FRANK AND THE LOST AUBERGINE
- A multi-directional scrolling platform game. Collect the diamonds and find
the exit to the next level. Features very fast scrolling. Try not to blow
yourself up too often! Can you find the cheat mode? ERORBASE V1.0 by Martin
Wright - A STOS accessory which makes it easier to understand errors in STOS
programs. It is essentially a database of all the STOS error numbers and
their meanings. Much faster than looking up the manual! MIDIFOXX v2.14 by
Petri Sinisalo - Sends and receives sysex data to and from your keyboard.
Data can be edited if you know what you're doing, and saved to disk. Mono
only. ASSEMBLER 2000 by Chris Skellern - An excellent Shareware 68000
assembler from the author of Family Roots. It includes a number of example
programs and a complete game for you to compile. Registered users get a
printed manual, printed tutorial and the latest update of the program. CLOCK
+ by M Maisey - An analog or digital clock (you choose) which runs in any
resolution. You can have gadgets (close box, full box, window title bar etc)
on or off, set the position on screen and save your preferences. Simply
select the ACC from the menu bar and click inside its window to bring up the
options. There's a Multi-TOS version on disk too. HDINFO V1.1 - Modifies the
DESKTOP.INF or NEWDESK.INF on bootup, to display the amount of free space on
the drive, rather than the drive name. INSDATE - An ACC which (when
selected) prints the current date into word processing documents. Obviously
your system date must be set correctly first! HD FREE v1.2 - A CPX which
displays the amount of space used (and free) on each partition of your hard
drive, using a bar graph. It also displays free memory against total memory.
THE OPTRONIX MUSAK PLAYER by Philip Shaw - A Shareware chip music player
which plays music in Mad Max, Tao, Count Zero, Big Alec and Megatizer
formats. It will also rip music from executable files. Includes secret
screen! 12 music files are included. Colour only.
FST.4254 CHRISTMAS 1993 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of the best software
from the latest catalogue. 1WP2FAX - Converts a 1st Wordplus document into
an IMG file at the correct resolution for transmitting using STFax, QFax,
Junior/TeleOffice and STraight FAX. BJ10E - A 1st Wordplus printer driver
for the Canon BJ10e. HELPFUL HORACE by Chris Skellern - An easy to use two
column printing program. It takes a standard ASCII file and lets you specify
the settings you want. It can then be output as a one or two column
document. This will save lots of paper when printing lengthy readmes,
assuming your printer supports condensed printing. DARKLYTE - A cross
between a war game and chess. You control four droids, each of which has
certain capabilities, on a chessboard type grid. You and your opponent take
it in turn to try to remove each other's pieces from the game. NEW DEPACK
V1.0 by Mike Watson - The successor to Mega Depack on UTL.3226. This version
runs as an ACC, GTP or PRG and there's an optimised version included for the
Falcon. It recognises and depacks 126 different packed file types and is
Multi-TOS compatible. Batch mode allows entire folders (or drives) to be
depacked in a single operation. Simply the best depacker available. GEMRAM
V1.5 - Copies GEM from ROM to RAM. This is necessary if you want to apply
custom patches to GEM such as WINX, ARROWFIX or SHBUF. ROUTE FINDER V1.8 by
Brian Henderson - A freeware electronic map. This program calculates the
distance between any two points on the British isles. You can specify
specific roads to avoid, the average speeds for different road types and so
on. There's no fancy maps like the ones you get with Auto Route, but this
program offers the best alternative to Atari users since Auto Route was
discontinued. LEDPANEL V1.0 - A graphic display in the top right of your
screen indicates reading and writing activity on any drive connected to your
system. PROFILE V1.43 by Mark Baines - This program is probably the most
extensive system analysis program available. It provides information on
hardware, TOS, memory, screen resolution, disk drives, operating system
header block and basepage, cartridge and control panel settings, important
system configuration addresses, DESKTOP.INF/NEWDESK.INF settings, vertical
blank interrupts, the cookie jar, environment variable strings, the complete
system variables contents and exception vectors. All data can be printed or
saved to disk. VIEW ST/TT - Allows you to view TGA, RAW, IMG, XIMG, IFF
(including HAM), GIF 87a, SPC, SPU, PI?, PC?, NEO, ART or DOO pictures
quickly and easily on an ST or TT. The colours are reduced to fit those of
the available resolution if appropriate. The images can also be saved out in
their converted state in Degas or QRT format.
FST.4364 FEBRUARY/MARCH 1994 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of some of the best
new titles from our latest catalogue. PENGO - Guide the hero, Eddy, through
a number of ice mazes whilst avoiding ghouls and ghosts. These spooks can be
trapped or destroyed by sliding blocks of ice onto or around them. UTOPUS -
A two player battle game in split screen format. The aim of the game is
straightforward, blow up your opponent before losing your own life.
Achieving the aim is rather more difficult. Needs 1 Meg, STE only. LONGPLAY
by Michael Hodgkinson - An STE sample player which reads continuously from
disk. As it's playing one sample, it loads the next. This allows lengthy
samples to be played back on small memory machines. An editing program
allows you to accurately splice the samples together. Longplay uses AVR
format samples and runs at 6.25 Khz. STE only, Needs 1 Meg. QD PLAY by Dave
Baggett - A utility to play 8-bit samples. Copy the PLAY.PRG to your Auto
folder so that samples play samples on boot-up, via STE, Hippo or Replay.
Command lines are easily created using a text editor. PURE LOGIC by Tony
Martin - Described as a game for anyone who can think logically. It is a
logic problems game and is based upon boolean logic, which is essentially
the way computers work. Up to eight player can take part and there are
several levels of play. Just to make it harder, a timer counts down as you
proceed to solve the problem. For the Mr Spocks amongst you! ORCS (Otto's
RCS) by Thornsten Otto - A Resource Construction Set which claims to be
better than WERCS, K-Resource and Atari's own RCS2. GOOD by Tidbit Software
Engineering Inc - A rather extensive hard disk backup utility. As well as
all the usual functions, it keeps track of where the data is stored on the
backup disks. If one of the backup disks gets corrupted, it tells you which
files you need recopies of! You can even back up one partition directly onto
another. Rather than having docs on disk, this program has on-line help
built-in, making it much more user friendly than the average program.
FST.4497 APRIL/MAY 1994 PREVIEW DISK - A collection of the best software
from our latest catalogue. ENDURANCE by Ozzy Omara - Not to be confused with
the Japanese game show! Set in the far distant future, you must demolish an
ageing space station without detonating its atomic core. The game is set in
a 3D world which can be moved around, viewed from different angles and
interacted with by means of various icons positioned around the screen. Can
you successfully complete your mission and live to tell the tale? INV_PAIN -
Two games from Sinister Software. The first is a version of the classic
space invaders game known to just about anyone who has ever played a
computer game and this is a very good implementation it is. The second game
is called Painter and you guide your character, who looks like a little
white blob, around a grid. As you pass over the grid it changes colour. The
idea is to enclosing all the rectangles within the grid. However, baddies
try to stop your progress. It's not as easy as it sounds. DOMINOES by Nebula
Entertainment - A demo of the more traditional game of dominoes. Control is
simple, move the mouse pointer and click. Assuming your move is legal, your
chosen domino is placed. View each end of the growing chain of dominoes to
decide where to place your next tile. This demo is merely a best out of
three game, register to get a fuller version containing opponents of varying
difficulties. MONOPACK v1.2 by Shrimp - A mono emulator which lives in the
bootsector! The installation program can write ST or STE versions, or clear
the bootsector. Speed setting can also be varied. One of the best mono
emulators I've seen - very smooth! SELECTRIC v1.10 by Stefan Radermacher -
Not just another replacement File Selector. Includes every file selector
function you can think of, then adds a couple more! Also included is an ACC
and CPX to call Selectric from the Desktop. All Desktop functions like copy,
move, rename etc. can be carried out within Selectric. An excellent piece of
Shareware. DESKPIC by Norbert Marschalleck- Allows you to use a Degas, NEO,
DOO, PAC, IMG, GIF or TGA picture of your choice as a backdrop to the
Desktop. Numerous example GIF pictures are included. If the picture is
smaller than the screen size, a pattern is made up from it. Runs in any
resolution! Really impressive.
FST.4622 JULY 1994 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of the very best software
from our latest catalogue. MARIANT - A French card game a little like
solitaire but played with two packs. The aim of the game is to sort out the
cards into suits, adhering to specific rules. An easy game to get the hang
of. OCR v1.0 by Alexander Clauss - An optical character recognition program.
It reads in IMG files created by scanners and converts any text within them
into ASCII so that it can be saved to disk and edited within your favourite
word processor. You are prompted to enter the ASCII equivalent of any letter
not recognised and these are built up into libraries for future use. This
means that the next time you encounter that letter in the document, it will
be recognised. By saving libraries at the end of each session, character
recognition will be much faster next time as OCR will already 'know' the
relevant font. Where a font is such that it is difficult to tell certain
characters from each other (eg: 1 and l) you can instruct OCR to guess the
correct character based upon the other characters surrounding it. This is a
very powerful program which is on a par with many commercial offerings, yet
it is easy to understand and a joy to use. Obviously you will need some sort
of mono scanner in order to scan the text you intend to use. OCR will run on
a 1 Meg system but some scans may be too large to load without additional
memory. CLOCK TIME by 4HJ - As the title suggests, this is an instructive
program designed to help teach children to tell the time. A useful 'watch
and learn' prelude is given, to show how to manipulate the hour/minute
hands. There are five levels of play which are guaranteed to have your child
familiar with the basic concepts fairly quickly. HP CHROME V1.5 by Rufus
Developments - Prints colour pictures on any HP Deskjet (even mono ones,
assuming you have a colour kit fitted of course!). You can adjust the colour
rendering to suit and print out using one of three quality settings.
Pictures can even be cropped or viewed in any ST resolution. This latest
upgrade supports the printing of Degas, NEO, TNY, GIF, TIFF, IMG, RAW and
Spectrum 512 pictures. PS CAPTURE V1.0 - Redirects the output from the GDOS
PostScript driver supplied with Timeworks (and probably other applications
too), to a disk file. This enables you to take the disk to a bureau for high
quality results. JCCFNVUE - Displays Calamus fonts to the screen. This
allows you to search quickly through your font collection and decide which
font you require. Mono only. EZ-ART PROFESSIONAL DEMO - A usable demo of
Floppyshop's revolutionary new art package for the ST/E. It handles screens
deeper than the normal low res screen allows and imports most of the common
formats. There's a massive collection of tools, many of which are unique to
the package. Try before you buy with this great demo. A comprehensive text
file lists all the main features and we've included a couple of pictures for
you to play around with. Everything is operational in this demo except that
you can't save your work.
FST.4686 AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 1994 COMPILATION DISK - A selection of the very
best software from our latest catalogue. BOXKITE V1.43 - A replacement file
selector which is very similar to Selectric. Boxkite offers most of the
Desktop's standard functions (copy, move, delete, rename etc) from the file
selector, supports long filenames under MinixFS, has keyboard shortcuts, pop
up menus and much more. In addition, the file selector can be resized like a
window to display more (or less) info on the files. E_DICT V1.0 by Charles
Edwards - A German to English translation program with a difference. Rather
than do a 'blind' translation, E_DICT lists the meanings of every known word
below the text and you type in the translated version with the words in the
correct order. As each few sentences are translated, the next few are loaded
and their meanings displayed. Although translations with E_DICT take longer
than with those which churn out automatic translations, the results will be
much more readable. Another thing which makes E_DICT different is that it
does not contain a massive dictionary. Instead it handles the most commonly
used words as well as many German technical terms. This Shareware version
only gives translations on the first 1000 characters within the file. The
registered version handles translations of any length. NIM2ST V1.2 by Denis
McCarthy - Converts PCX files created on the Nimbus version of PC Paintbrush
into Degas format. Nimbus PCX files are non-standard and although recognised
as ordinary PCX's by most conversion utilities, this is the only program
known to convert them correctly. ST2NIM - This program converts Degas low
res screens into Nimbus PCX files. A number of example Nimbus PCX files are
included on disk. VIDEO MASTER DITHER by Simon Scott - Uses dithering to
convert a 16 grey level .VID or .FLM sequence created by Video Master on the
STE or Falcon so that it looks almost as good on an ST(FM). An example VID
file converted with this program is included on disk. SNACMAN by Impact
Software - Yet another Pacman clone, again with some added features not seen
in other games of this type. This version has impressive sound and graphics
and allows up to three players to play at once. As with all pacman games the
idea is to rush around the maze gobbling up the pods and avoiding the
ghosts. X-PROTRACKER by Eagle of Sentry - An adaptation of Protracker with
several enhancements. Unfortunately, there was no space on the disk to
include any MOD files! X-Protracker is STE ONLY. GVMODUL.JPG - An external
module which allows you to save JPEG files from GEMVIEW v3.0 or later. DELAY
CALCULATOR by Carl Lofgren - A Midi musician's tool. Used as an accessory
within your sequencer, simply enter the tempo and it will calculate possible
delays.
FST.4813 OCT/NOV 1994 COMPILATION DISK - A selection of the very best
software from our latest catalogue. PIXPRO II - Allows you to make colour
adjustments to medium res scans (as created by some hand scanners) so as to
adjust the contrast, making them suitable for use as clip art. ASCDRAW v1.52
- Allows you to create boxes and line drawings as used on the PC or on BBS
screens. What makes it so flexible is that you can superimpose the boxes
over an existing text file and you can cut out your creations as blocks and
perform most of the usual block functions found in art packages. DESKMORF
V1.10 - Gives GEM windows, Desktop icons and dialog boxes a 3D look. Instead
of a button inverting when it selected, it will appear to be 'pressed in'.
This version only works for 10 minutes. You need to register to get the full
benefits! Colour only. CLARISSA by Chris Sharp - This is The Supreme
Software Group's document displayer. It is similar in concept to RDD and the
STOSSER doc displayer but with a few extras. Screen colours can be changed,
you have choice of two fonts, music can be switched on or off, you can
toggle 50/60 hz display and much more. You can even display Degas pictures
and docs compressed with all the popular packers. All this is in addition to
its functions as a doc displayer! Give it a try, you're bound to find it
useful. Colour only. GHOST - This program eases the pain in transferring to
and from Macs on emulators prior to Spectre GCR. It converts Aladin, Spectre
Macintosh MFS disk formats to and from each other. Assuming that you don't
copy a disk to a format with a lower capacity, the program works well. In
fact you can often get away with using smaller formats if the source disk is
not full! ST GLOBE - A most excellent coverage from France (written in
English) of almost everything relating to the geography of the world. The
programming is excellent, dozens of maps are available covering topics such
as capitals, population, money in use etc. over almost the whole of the
earth. Questions are available to test your knowledge and answers are
readily obtainable once the score has been established, by return to an
active menu. Capitals and countries are pinpointed with a flashing cursor.
Good interaction between all screens and easy return to the main menu. A
five star Shareware program. POTHOLE by Paul Grenfell - A 20 level Shareware
game based on Boulderdash. The basic aim is to tunnel beneath the earth and
find diamonds and other goodies. Watch out for nasties and falling rocks, as
these will try to hinder your progress. PENGI by Leesoft, New Zealand - A
maze game where the maze is made up of blocks, many of which can be moved,
by pushing them. Your aim is to try to kill all the snowbees on each level
by squashing them with the blocks. Each snowbee killed gives up a bonus and
once you have cleared the level, it's on to the next.
FST.4870 CHRISTMAS 1994 COMPILATION DISK - A selection of the very best
software from different catagories in our latest catalogue. ASSIGN-ED - An
easy to use GEM based program which allows you to add or delete fonts from
your ASSIGN.SYS file using simple mouse clicks, rather than having to type
it all in from a text editor. It also lets you see what the font looks like
using some example text. Multi-TOS compatible too. CPX SPY v1.01 by Gary
Priest - Displays the version numbers of all CPX files on your system. This
allows you to easily distinguish which are newer versions of CPXs that you
already have. You can also view a CPXs attributes, change directory and copy
new CPXs into your usual CPX folder. Multi-TOS compatible. GHOSTLINK V1.02ß
- Allows you to connect up a PC (in fact up to three PCs) to your Atari and
address it as a slave device. In simple terms, this allows you to access any
data on the PC's storage devices (floppy drives, hard drives, CD-ROM,
Syquests etc) and read the data directly into the Atari as if that drive
were connected to it. A possible use might be to load a picture from a CD-
ROM drive on the PC directly into GEM-View for conversion and then save it
out onto your Atari hard drive. The possibilities are limitless! You will
require a null modem cable to connect the two machines together. The PC
software required is also included. MULTI SHEN V1.0 by STectre - An
accessory which records anything sent to the printer/RS-
232/MIDI/console/keyboard and sends it to another device of your choice. Can
also make multiple copies, e.g. to the printer. MNILU v1.61 by STectre - A
Shareware compiler for GFA Basic v2 programs. Can't create accessories or
Auto-running programs. Some limitations on normal compiler functions, and
can't produce fast or small final programs. Some programs may run out of
memory on machines with less than 1 Meg of memory. JETLOPE 2 by Barney
Poston - Our first program for the HP Deskjet 510 and 520! It lets you print
envelopes (either individually, from an ASCII list or from data stored in
the GEM clipboard) and lets you access the internal fonts built into these
printers. The envelope sizes catered for are #10 commercial and European DL.
Lots of features are built into this program including a name and address
database. ONE JACK by STectre - A program launcher which runs as an ACC and
has the ability to run up to 66 PRG, TOS, TTP or GTP programs from a menu
with a simple click of the mouse. TWINZ - One of those infuriating puzzle
games that you think should be really easy but turns out to be quite the
opposite. In this game you must find matching pairs of objects hidden behind
a number of doors, using the mouse to click on the doors. A good memory and
quick responses are required as only two doors can be opened at a time and
the whole game is played against the clock. MAX by N Taylor - A Mario style
Shareware platform game. You must guide the hero, Max, through each level to
the exit, picking up the letters of the word EXIT on the way. You must avoid
monsters, spikes, water and lava (all of which have a harmful effect upon
you) and watch out for hidden platforms, secret rooms and bonus items. The
graphics and overall presentation make this a game of very high quality.
FST.5006 FEBRUARY/MARCH 1995 COMPILATION DISK - A selection of the very
best software from different catagories in our latest catalogue. SHOWTIME by
Tony Greenwood - A slideshow with a difference. It displays all pictures in
overscan mode (i.e. no borders). The program will display all PI1 and NEO
files in the root directory of any specified drive and you can select the
wait time between the loading of each picture. SPECTRA by Andrew Sage - An
image processing program. It allows you to load up a RAW, TGA or POV RAW 24-
bit True Colour picture and display it using 64 greyscales on an STE or 32
on an STFM. You can then lighten, darken, dither, enlarge, reduce or negate
your picture. In addition, you can also carry out individual pixel editing
in zoom mode. All processes may be applied to the entire picture or to user
defined areas. What's more, although the picture has been colour reduced for
display purposes, the 'real' picture in memory has not. This means that you
save back a True Colour image rather than a greyscale one! Edited RAWs and
TGAs not exceeding 320x200 in size may be viewed in colour using Photochrome
on ART.3303C. LOTTERY 4 by Dave Cobbledick - Yet another National Lottery
number cruncher program. This one picks out your six random numbers complete
with atmospheric sound effects! BJ300 by Stephen Munslow - An ACC which
allows you to send various commands (which font, characters per inch, text
effects, print quality, justification etc) directly to a Canon BJ300 or
BJ330. RUFTRADE by Charles Edwards - This program has evolved from E_DICT on
UTL.4637 and is currently one of the best automated German to English
translation programs around. Its built-in dictionary's strength comes from
the fact that it is computer oriented rather than limited to 'everyday'
German. In addition, a number of common German phrases do not make sense
when translated literally and Ruftrade attempts to identify these and
subsitute meaningful alternatives for them. Ruftrade is undergoing constant
development and is used to translate much of the documentation for the
latest PD & Shareware releases. Highly recommended, especially with
registration at only £5! DL3_9999 by T Smith - A nice easy to use GEM based
directory lister program. You can select any drive from A to P and print out
a directory listing to printer or save it to disk. In addition, you can
specify what data (file size, date/time stamp, user comments etc) is to be
included within the listing. LHARCBAT by Robert Chilton - Converts all
folders in the directory from which it was run, into separate LZH archives
of the same name by using the supplied LHARC113.TTP. Other versions of LHARC
may be used but v1.13 has been supplied as it makes the output compatible
with the popular dearchiver UNLZH172. PANTHER - Probably one of the most
useful utilities in years. It intercepts TOS and redirects file accesses. In
simple terms, it allows you to put all your ACCs or RSCs into folders
(nested as deeply as you like) and load them up as if the ACCs were in the
root directory of the boot drive and RSCs were in the same directory as
associated PRGs. It also supports the use of file aliases, but if you don't
understand that you'll still appreciate its use for cleaning up your root
directory. GHOSTLINK FIX by Martin Cubitt - Allows you to set up the baud
rate when using Ghoslink on the ST. DYSPROSM by Team Brindlbeast - Your aim
is to fight off 100 waves of attacking aliens as they move horizontally
across the screen. The further you progress into the game, the faster the
aliens come and the more often they return your fire. There are no bonuses
or power-ups it's just shoot at everything that moves. Can your joystick
handle it? MAGNO-BALL by JV Enterprises - Catch the ball using your joystick
controlled ship, a magnet will fix it to the front of your ship, then guide
it towards your opponent's goal. Beware, contact of any kind (with the edges
of the playing area or your opponent) will result in the ball escaping. Once
the goal is in sight, shoot. This is the sort of game that looks much easier
than it really is, but it will have you coming back for just one more try!
FST.5090 APRIL/MAY 1995 COMPILATION DISK - A selection of the very best
software from different catagories in our latest catalogue. ECS (English
Conjugation System) - Designed for those who need assistance in verb
conjugation. As such it is a well designed program where a verb tense is
chosen (including the subject - I, you etc), the conjugation requested
(present tense, past tense, future and conditional). You will then be given
the correct answer. Full instructions are on disk. MEMORY - This is a game
for younger players. It's a straightforward matching game where the player
must uncover matching pairs of cards, using either the mouse, keyboard or a
joystick. Play against the computer or another human opponent. MIDIFILES - 4
drum patterns and a complete song in standard MIDI format to load into your
sequencer. Files are: 5FOUR1, BONGOFUR, INTHEAIR, JAZZRAP2, & SHUFFL10.
DESKDRIVER 2 by Graham Hinton - Originally designed as a printer driver for
KAOSDesk, this program has evolved into a complete communications port
driver. It allows you to direct output from a disk file to the parallel,
serial, serial 1, serial 2, modem 1, modem 2, MIDI or LAN ports (depending
upon which of these is supported by your TOS version and machine). As far as
we know, this is the only driver which addresses the 'extra' ports on the
Mega STE, TT and Falcon. It is also a an exceptionally good printer driver
for replacement Desktops. Mono only. DUET V1.0 by Andrew Alich - Allows you
to connect up any two TOS based computers (ST, STE, TT or Falcon) to each
other and access all drives connected to the network as if they were
connected to a single machine. In addition, you can print to a single
printer using either machine. Connection between the two computers can be
made by means of Serial, MIDI or LAN interfaces. Program and docs in German,
but a rough translation is supplied. LOTTERY COMPANION by Mark Butler -
Written by one of Britain's best known Shareware authors, LC is another
carefully researched program rather than merely a random number picker,
although it can do that too. Each week you add the draw numbers to the
statistics stored on disk and predictions can be made based on the least or
most commonly drawn numbers drawn over a period of time and three built-in
weighting options are used to improve the accuracy of this forecast. As you
do this, your numbers will automatically be checked against the draw. An
additional feature in this program is the number wheel where you enter the
number of data sets required (you can have up to 1000) and either pick 12
number fields manually or using one of the program's built-in number
generation methods. All possible permutations of six lucky numbers chosen
from your selection of 12. Pattern analysis is also useful as it displays
any patterns that are forming after analysing all draws performed to date.
LC3 supports print out to any printer and is constantly being updated.
Suitable for personal or syndicate use. Can you afford to miss out on this
one? PINGUIN - A rather curious adaptation of the familiar minesweeper type
game where you must uncover all squares on the grid which do not contain a
penguin. The squares which surround a penguin always indicate how many
penguins are in adjoining squares. A number of preset grid sizes are
available or you can design your own. You can also decide how many penguins
will be hidden in the grid. SpeedoGDOS and Multi-TOS compatible.
FST.5175 JUNE/JULY 1995 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of some of the best of
our new releases from catalogue v7.5. NANJING - A two dimensional game which
uses differing sets of Chinese tiles. There are six different sets of tiles
to choose from. You start off with six tiles placed randomly on a grid and
your aim is to place as many of the remaining 66 tiles onto the grid as
possible. There are of course rules as to which tiles are allowed to go
where and strategic positioning of tiles yields a higher score. Translated
into broken English, you will easily pick it up after a few games. BUGS by
David Munsie - Arcade Dave's back with another blast from the past. This is
a much improved fast action Shareware Centipede clone. The usual shoot
everything the moves, rule applies and you must destroy the centipede to
progress to the next level. This variant has numerous bees and other insects
making a guest appearance at times just to spice things up. There are three
skill levels and special bonuses on the harder levels. Great fun! CHARACTER
TABLE V1.1 by Mark Baines - A CPX for use with Xcontrol. It displays the
entire system font and shows the ASCII, hex, decimal, octal and binary
values for any selected character. CALIGRAPHER QUICK REFERENCE (CQREF) V1.2
by Bill Aycock - A desk accessory which gives the user multi-functional
control through keyboard commands over the search/replace codes, special
character codes, case conversion and much more, from within Calligrapher.
C_SCAPE V1.1 by Pete Bailey - An integrated front end for Sozobon C
(LAN.13). Rather than have to use Sozobon from a CLI, C_SCAPE gives you a
nice easy to use working environment and allows your compiler and editor to
be called up with a single key press. The package also includes a text
editor called Opal. A useful feature of C_Scape is the ability to switch
between low and medium resolution so that you can write the code for a low
res program whilst in medium res but don't have to re-boot to test it.
Comprehensive manual on disk. Recommended. MOUSEBUTTON by Frogsoft -
Reverses the mouse buttons so that the left button acts as the right and
vice versa. Useful if you left button is broken and you don't want to buy a
new mouse! PROBE HOUSE UNIT CONVERTER V1.0 by William Wong - Probably the
most comprehensive weights and measures conversion utility ever written. It
converts between every known unit of distance/length, weight, speed, volume,
area, density, time, gravitational force, energy, pressure, temperature,
light, magnetic induction, electric charge, power and plane angle. All in
all, PHUC handles over 120 different types of conversions! It's also GEM
based and very easy to use. SPEEDVIEW V1.5 by Christian Ernst - This program
allows you to view SpeedoGDOS fonts alongside their font names, particularly
useful since the filename BX000003.SPD is less than descriptive. Its main
use would be to view Speedo fonts within an application which does not
support such a feature. This can only be done whilst running Multi-TOS,
although Speedview itself can be run under ordinary TOS from the Desktop.
SILKBOOT V2e by Mark Slagel - Installs an executable boot sector on a floppy
disk and tests for 2.5 Meg of memory in cases where TOS thinks it has 4 Meg
and corrections are made if necessary. This is of most use to STE owners who
have mixed capacity SIMMs fixed. Silkboot also bypasses the memory test and
forced delay on TOS 2.06 machines. SQUIRL by Tim Chapman - A light
synthesiser/pattern generator program similar in many ways to Jeff Minter's
Trip-A-Tron (ART.3487). Patterns are generated by mouse movement but the
emphasis is less reliant on the actual movement and more so on the way the
mouse is moved. Dim the lights and play around with this one. You'll be
amazed with some of the results you get. You can even try running it with a
screen magnifier or mouse speeder program installed and watch how the
display changes. Colour only. QUICKTIME PLAYER V0.92 by Dieter Fiebelkorn -
Lets you view Quicktime movies (MOV files) on your ST/E. These files are
typically found on PC and MAC CD's. This version of the player only supports
CVID 24 bit and does not play the sound, but it's a start! Optimised
versions for 020+ processors and FPU's are also included. Mono or colour.
FST.5270 AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 1995 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of some of the
best of our new releases from catalogue v8.0. CALL_TTP V1.0 by Martin
Braschler - An interesting program that gives a great deal more control and
flexibility over the use of TTP programs. It installs itself in the OS and
every time a TTP is run, CALL_TTP is called up first. The options include
the ability to switch between white-on-black and black-on-white, a stopwatch
to compare the performance of similar TTP-programs, the ability to write all
output to the printer or a file, the option to switch off the cursor or make
it blink, the ability to extend the length of the TTP command line and
support for pre-configured script files to save the hassle of typing in the
same commands time after time. Must be run from the root directory of Drive
C (hard drive or ramdisk). Mono only. BOOTSIE v1.74 by Stefen Krey - An
excellent tool for creating customised executable bootsectors. You can have
it print up a user defined message, reduced the boot wait time, switch the
cache on or off, switch on the blitter, set 50Hz or 60Hz, set the step rate
for drives A or B, sound a 'bing' when Auto programs load and even guard
against viruses. GFA PATCH V0.98 by Gregor Duchalski and Christopher Conrad
- A comprehensive GEM based program for use with the GFA Basic interpreter
and compiler. This program deals with various bugs in the Line-A, Setcolour,
Merge, Call and Deflist commands as well as the colours in used in the
Editor and much more. The Compiler is MagiC compatible. Unfortunately, the
program and docs are in German but we've done a RUF translation of the docs.
MSB_ANSI by Mark S Baines - These three GDOS bitmapped fonts are equivalent
to the three Atari system fonts and based on them, but include the ANSI
characters suitable for comms on-line use and those using so-called IBM
printer fonts in their word processor. In effect, the fonts are those
officially called PC-8 Code Page 437 on the PC. Protext users will find them
particularly useful. The included docs explain how to set them up in the
ASSIGN.SYS file for use with NVDI or install them under NEODesk. PIXKROME -
An image processing package written in STOS! You can load pictures in
Spectrum 512, RAW (QRT Raytrace), Degas, NEO, NeoChrome Master, Canvas, Art
Director, IFF, IMG and TNY formats amongst others or digitise into the
program directly using Vidi ST. Special effects include mosaic, inverse,
shatter, sinewave, tanwave, flip and mirror. The colour intensities of RAW
images can be adjusted for the different red, green and blue components. A
number of filters such as min, max, mean, median and blur are also included.
Although True Colour pictures are worked in in their their separate RGB
parts, there is a preview mode which gives you an idea of what the adjusted
picture will look like. Your completed masterpiece will have to be viewed
using Photochrome or Raw2Spec. Needs 1 Meg, Colour ONLY. RAMCOPY by Terry
King - Install as an application, then every time you double-click a .RAM
file (an ASCII file specifying the destination drive and a list of files), a
ramdisk will be created as specified by the ASCII listing, and the relevant
files will automatically be copied into it. SKYDUEL by Apache - A very good
single or multi-player air combat game which includes ballistic missile
warfare with dogfighting and ground attacks. The aim of the game is to
inflict as much damage as possible onto your opponent whilst he or she tries
to do the same to you. The use of a variety of types of aircraft and the
randomly generated scenarios make this a compelling game, but it is not easy
to be successful until you've had plenty of practice. MAGIC SHADOW ARCHIVER
creates a compressed archive of a complete floppy disk (including
bootsector). Now Falcon and Multi-TOS compatible. LOTTERY5 v3.0 by Robin
Fisher - Yet another useful utility to help assist those of us who
participate in the National Lottery. This program differs from most as it
does not work merely on the basis of random selection (although this is
available as an option). Instead, it is aimed primarily at those of you who
run syndicates. The database accommodates up to 260 weeks of draws and
allows up to 30 syndicate selections including names and up to 10 personal
selections. Comprehensive statistical analysis charts out the most and least
popular numbers averaged over the weeks that the program contains data for.
This allows you to make an 'educated guess' when picking next week's
numbers. Each week you enter the numbers drawn and the program will check
them against the numbers held by the syndicate. You can also print out an
analysis of the results for each member from within the program. A lot of
research has gone into the creation of this program. Hopefully a lot of
money will come out of it!
FST.5329 OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 1995 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of some of the
best of our new releases from catalogue v8.1. SMG - A simple memory game by
Howard Clarke. The game begins with a grid containing some hidden numbers,
your task is to uncover the numbers in chronological order, but only one
number is revealed at a time. Easy at first but, as the number of squares in
the grid increases, this really does test your memory. Would make an
excellent game for children. For one to five players. PICFIB V1.1 - A
slideshow program with a few differences. Picfib currently supports the
viewing of IMG, Degas, PCX and GIF images. Lists of images can be created
and individual pictures assigned 'tags'. These tags are then used as basis
of searches so that only files in the list which match any chosen tag or
tags, will be displayed. Picfib runs on any Atari but pictures with less
colours than the current resolution will look pretty awful! If you've got
lots of pictures (especially clip art) on your hard drive, this may well be
just what you need to get them into some sort of logical order. THE COOKIE
MONSTER v0.1 by Cajun - Saves out a listing of all installed Cookies. Both
the Cookie identifier and its full name are listed for recognised Cookies,
as well as the identifiers of any unrecognised ones. Cookie Monster
currently recognises 154 Cookies. TORUS by Martin Russ - A sliding puzzle
game but with added extras, like the ability to use PI1, PI2 or PI3
pictures. Once the picture has been jumbled the sections move in lines
either horizontally or vertically, giving an extra challenge to the game. A
number of pictures are supplied and you can of course use your own. BLITTER
EXT - STOS Basic extension which allows you to use the STE's blitter in your
own programs. Includes both interpreter and compiler versions. STOSSER
MULTI-MEDIA DISPLAYER by Tony Greenwood - This latest incarnation of the
STOSSER DOCUMENT DISPLAYER has lots of extras over other displayers. Your
text can be edited using the displayer's in-built editor, there's in-built
animation and sound (13 types of chip music and three sound sample formats
are supported) studios and up to 15 fonts and unlimited pictures can be used
in your documents. What's more, your finished documents may be packed using
one of six common packers. The amount of user control over everything is
staggering. Calling it a document displayer is misleading, it's close to
being described as an authoring kit for multi-media presentations! TTF VIEW
by Trevor Blight - A simple but handy utility which displays a True Type
font on screen without the need for SpeedoGDOS 5 or NVDI 3 to be installed.
This makes it useful for checking out new fonts without having to install
them and load up an application to view them. MONO only. SET CLIPBOARD by
More Soft - Allows you to specify the directory to be used by all programs
which support the GEM Clipboard, rather than it defaulting to C:\CLIPBRD.
FST.5424 CHRISTMAS 1995 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of some of the best of
our new releases from catalogue v8.2. LETTRIS - Similiar concept to Tetris
except that it is letters that drop down from above, rather than blocks. You
must make the letters fall in the appropriate columns to make up words. The
more words you make, the more points you get. The game is over when the pile
of letters reaches the top of the screen. GOIN' DOWN WITH THE CAPTAIN - A
platform game with well drawn sprites and challenging action, which takes
place on board a ship. You must seal leaking pipes, collect lifebouys and
avoid crabs. A good game for younger users. COSTA V1.21 by Gary Priest -
Reads details of your Internet calls from NOS.LOG and works out the total
length of time spent on-line and the cost of the calls. You can customise
the call charges and charging rates to reflect those appropriate to where
you dial for your Internet access. It knows about time zones, standard,
cheap rate and weekend call tariffs as well as minimum call charges. It even
includes the VAT! What's more, you can clear all data when you pay the bill
so that remaining data is valid for the next bill. FONTLOOK V1.0 - An ACC
which displays any CFN on screen. Simply click onto the 'full box' to bring
up the file selector, then select a font. The font name will then be
displayed (written in its own font) in the accessory window. ULTRASCREEN
V1.0b by Yannick Gayral V1.0b - A big screen emulator for the STE. It can
extend the screen size to 640x480 or 640x800. MONO ONLY, STE ONLY. COOKIEXX
V1.0 by Marc Billiet - Creates a Cookie Jar at startup (on TOS versions
below 1.6) of a size that the user can choose by renaming the xx part of the
filename to the required size. BOOTSECTOR RE-INSTALLER v1.74 by Tronic -
Lets you install 14 different customised bootsectors onto your disks in this
demo version. The full version lets you install anti-viruses, virus free
bootsectors and bootsector utilities. You can also re-install game and demo
bootsectors which have been damaged. DISK CAKE V2.1 by Christoph Zwerschke -
Displays disk usage as a pie chart. You can of course specify any
disk/partition or an individual directory. Double-click files to display
their attributes. Double-click folders to display a pie chart of their
contents. Lots of user configurable options. FIVE TO FIVE v2.11 - Analyses
and converts various sample formats (AIFF, AIFF-CUBASE, AVR, DVSM, FORTUNE,
HSN, SND, WAVE, RAW) between different computer systems (ST, Falcon, Sun,
NeXT, Mac, PC). Runs on any Atari. ST to MIDI CONVERTER by Andrew Gower -
Converts chip music from games into 3-channel MIDI output. Obviously you
need a MIDI synth or sound module. Not all games work, the success rate is
approximately 50% but even so this is quite remarkable, and possibly unique.
FST.5481 FEBRUARY/MARCH 1995 PREVIEW DISK - A selection of some of the best
of our new releases from catalogue v8.3. CALL FSELECTOR V1.0 by Mark Baines
- A CPX which calls up the GEM file selector (or your chosen replacement)
from within any GEM based program. ENHANCE EXTEND.SYS V1.0 by Vincent
Godefroy - Adds the name of SpeedoGDOS fonts as a commented line above their
file name in the EXTEND.SYS file so that you can easily identify which file
name relates to which font. Invaluable! HD FORMAT V2.01 by Thomas Muthmann -
Allows you to format just about any type of disk. Supports 3.5" and 5.25"
standard and extended formats in double density or high density. It even
handles 40 track devices and allows you to specify the steprate for either
drive. MS-DOS compatible bootsectors are also supported. Includes assembler
source. DATE_DAY v1.0 by Mark Baines - A CPX which takes any valid date as
its input and returns the day, the day number and the week number (in the
year) for the specified date. Please note that this does not take account of
the change from the Julian to Gregorian calendars. UNDELETE - Restores files
and folders which have been deleted accidentally, as long as you have not
written to the disk since you deleted them. Medium res only, only works on
floppies. NO TASTE V1.3 - Writes a customised bootsector to your startup
floppy. Running on TOS 2.xx it simulates a keypress in order to abort the
automatic memory test. On earlier TOS versions you can adjust the floppy
disk steprate for A or B so as to allow HD disks to be accessed correctly
without installing a separate patch (TOS 2.xx has this feature built-in). On
all TOS versions, you can specify the time delay before your hard drive is
accessed (in order to let it get up to speed). TO DO V1.01 by Reiner Rosin -
Described as an alternative to cluttering up your desk with bits of paper! I
allows you to assign lists of things to do. Each list can have as many items
as you want and the individual items can be given a priority value from 1 to
3 and can be marked with a tick (or removed) when done. Lists can be output
to screen, printer or clipboard or edited at any time. Probably the best
invention since Post-It notes! Runs as a PRG or ACC. THE COOKIE MONSTER v0.4
by Cajun - Saves out a listing of all installed Cookies. Both the Cookie
identifier and its full name are listed for recognised Cookies, as well as
the identifiers of any unrecognised ones. Cookie Monster currently
recognises 357 Cookies. RACE V2 by D Johnston - An adaptation of the board
game Ratrace. This version allows for only one player, but a full version is
available from the author. This game involves moving around a board and
gambling in order to earn money and so advance to higher levels. NIBE 2 by
Marc Bourlon - A snake game where the snake moves continuously and must eat
all the apples on one level to progress to the next. The only problem is
that he grows each time he eats an apple and you lose a life if he bumps
into a wall or his own tale! This version has colourful graphics, multiple
levels and user definable control keys and speed. WHIST by Andrew MacCormack
- A computer version of the well known card game where the mouse is used to
select the card you wish to play. Even those with no previous knowledge of
the game will soon pick up the easy to follow rules. All the games are
played against a computer opponent. STOS MAPPER V1.1 by Les Greenhalgh -
Perhaps the most full featured map editor available. It is fully icon based
and works on a similar basis to lego! Maps can be made up from picture files
or STOS sprite banks and can be up to three layers deep. In addition, up to
10 maps can be held in memory and easily swapped between. The only
limitation is that the maps cannot exceed 319x199 tiles, but the tiles
themselves can be any size. STOS NINJA TRACKER EXT V1.06 by Les Greenhalgh -
An extension for STOS Basic which lets you play 4 track MOD files (i.e. no
need to convert to AKB) in the background within your own programs. It also
lets you play chip music by most of the well known demo/game coders too.
This latest version even supports packed MODs! Includes the compiler
extension, two example MODs plus example STOS source code for using the new
commands.
